Delaware State Parks Beach Patrol is actively searching for qualified applicants to fill the position of Ocean Lifeguard at five of its ocean swimming beach areas in Sussex County. Ocean rescue is a demanding job, and our experienced staff will prepare you to meet every challenge.
We offer:
- Competitive Starting Pay of $11 per hour
- Nationally Recognized USLA Training Standards
- Physical Fitness Strengthening
- Participation in Ocean Lifeguard Competitions
- Housing (limited availability)
As a United States Lifesaving Association (USLA) Advanced Certified Agency, we offer the following paid training:
- Delaware State Parks Ocean Rescue Training DOT — First Responder Training CPR/AED/First Aid Training
- Helicopter — Open Water Rescue Program
- Sussex County EMS — Medic Assistant Training
No experience is necessary, but minimum physical fitness standards and swimming ability are required as follow:
- 550 Yard Swim within 10 minutes
- 2 Mile Beach Run within 20 minutes
- 25 Push-ups within 60 seconds
- 25 Sit-ups within 60 seconds
- 100 Yard soft sand sprint (timed)
- 25 Yard Sprint Swim (timed)
- Minimum Age Requirement: 16
