About Delaware State Parks Seasonal Employment

Seasonal jobs may be available at parks throughout the state.

What kinds of jobs are offered?

A variety of positions are available in locations from the rolling hills in New Castle to the beaches in Sussex county. Summer openings typically include park patrol officers, lifeguards, naturalists, fee collectors, campground registrars and maintenance technicians. These positions provide an excellent way for individuals interested in permanent, full-time employment with the Division of Parks and Recreation to gain experience and requisite knowledge that could aid their future employment consideration.

Seasonal positions are for limited-term employment and do not provide benefits such as compensated leave and/or health insurance. Direct Deposit is a condition of employment.

Who can apply?

Seasonal job postings are open to the general public. Eligible candidates for seasonal jobs include high school students, college students, school teachers, retirees and other people who are customarily unemployed during the summer months. Minimum age for employment is 16 years old. Preference will be given to applicants who are residents of Delaware.

What are the work hours?

Seasonal employees work up to 40 hours per week depending on the position and must be available to work additional hours when needed. Many positions have work schedules that include Saturdays, Sundays or holidays. The majority of our seasonal positions are available for three-month periods from Memorial Day through Labor Day.

When should I apply?

Note that some positions have specific deadlines that will be noted in the job description. For summer positions, applications received prior to February 15 of each year will receive full consideration for that seasonal calendar year. Applications after that date will be considered only as positions become vacant, but applicants are encouraged to apply at any time. Applicants selected for employment will be notified as soon as possible.

For general information regarding seasonal employment, please contact the park where you would like to work.
