Delaware State Parks offer summer day camps all over Delaware, from Alapocas Run State Park in Wilmington to Cape Henlopen in Lewes, and plenty in between! Check back in January for details and registration information for our 2020 camps.

Young Explorers: A Walk in the Woods - CANCELLED - Bellevue State Park

For ages 4 to 6

June 8 - June 12, 9 a.m. - 12 p.m.

Each day, explore a nature topic through a hands-on hike and nature craft. Daily activities relate to the theme of the week and are documented on our “Look What We Did Today” wall for parents to see. Each week will be different, so sign up for one or all three! *Note: Before care is available, but no after care.

For ages 4 to 5

Nature Rock Climbing Camp - CANCELLED - Alapocas Run State Park

For ages 8 to 10

June 15 - June 19, 8:30 a.m. - 3:30 p.m.

Learn to climb, make some friends and have great nature adventures. Campers will learn the basics of rock climbing while exploring the natural word in Alapocas Run State Park. Climbing equipment is provided. After care is available 3:30 – 5:30 p.m., $35 for the week or $10 per day.

RECREATION CAMP: Amazing Animals - CANCELLED - Bellevue State Park

For ages 7 to 11

For ages 7 to 10

Do you love to fish or want to learn how? Then this is a camp for you. Learn different types of fishing, fishing ethics, safety and techniques. We explore the world of fish and fishing through fishing, hikes and hands-on activities. Note: this is not a traveling camp.

For ages 5 to 7

Every day is a new adventure! Join us this week to explore the different habitats around our park and the creatures that call them home. Visit the meadows, forest, scenic hills, and even the creek. Do themed crafts and games, and learn all about nature.

From GPS tags to camera traps, high-tech to low-tech, learn about all of the cool technology that conservationists use to study wildlife, plus get some hands-on practice!

For ages 6 to 9

Get ready for a week of discovering all things wild about the park. Dip net along the pond’s edge to discover the true creatures living under the surface! Paddleboat the pond in search of wildlife along the pond. Campers will enjoy a special visit from the Brandywine Zoo!

Discovery Camp Lunch Bunch - CANCELLED - White Clay Creek State Park

For ages 4 to 6

June 15 - June 19, 12 p.m. - 1 p.m.

Pack a lunch, extend the friend time and stay an extra hour for a picnic, story and fun time. Pick up is at 1 p.m.

Rock Climbing Adventure Camp - CANCELLED - Alapocas Run State Park

For ages 11 to 13

Test your strength, agility and concentration while exploring the world of rock climbing. Campers will learn the basics, climb and hike at Alapocas Run State Park, and canoe on a pond. Climbing equipment is provided. After care is available 3:30 – 5:30 p.m., $35 for the week or $10 per day.

Volunteerism Camp - CANCELLED - Bellevue State Park

For ages 12 to 15

June 22 - June 26, 9 a.m. - 4 p.m.

Visit different local sites throughout the week to participate in daily service projects and learn about the organization’s activities and volunteer opportunities. Service projects include experiences such as packing food, a canoe clean-up, and gardening. This qualifies for hours of service needed for school. Trips involve travel to sites 15 minutes to 45 minutes away.

Nature Wonders Session 1 - CANCELLED - Brandywine Creek State Park

For ages 4 to 6

June 22 - June 26, 9 a.m. - 12 p.m.

Join us for mornings full of nature exploration and play! Each day has a fun theme: Marvelous Mammals, Homey Habitats, Insect Inspectors, Wonderful Water, and Wings & Things. Learn about the creatures that live in the park then go explore where they might live! Make fun crafts and play new and exciting games every day. On Friday we will have a craft show and presentation for the parents at 11:30 a.m.

Nature Wonders Lunch Bunch (Session 1) - CANCELLED - Brandywine Creek State Park

For ages 4 to 6

Pack a lunch and join your new friends for an extra hour while you munch and chat! Maybe even play an extra game or make an extra craft if you have time. Available to all sessions of Nature Wonders (except Fridays because of the presentation at 11:30).

Outdoor Adventures Session 1 - CANCELLED - Brandywine Creek State Park

For ages 11 to 14

Protect the park! Come join us this week to learn all about the history of the park. Learn how to help us preserve nature while exploring all that the park has to offer. Hike to the park ruins, create maps and learn about orienteering, tube down the Brandywine, and even take a trip to Fort Delaware!

Animal Handling 101: a Training Course just for Teens! - CANCELLED - Brandywine Zoo

For ages 14 to 17

June 22 - June 26, 9 a.m. - 3:30 p.m.

During this week, campers will undertake a full week of animal handling training! Campers will receive the same training in animal handling, policies and protocols, and program delivery that our staff and volunteers get when they train to present Ambassador Animals for education programs. Additionally, campers will beef up their animal facts and hone their public presentation skills in preparation for delivering their own public program with an Ambassador Animal on the last day of camp. Please note that campers MUST provide proof of a negative TB skin test within the last year (365 days) from camp start date (June 22) upon registration to handle vertebrate animals.

Discover some of the wildlife mysteries of Cape, as we dig into the different habitats in the park and find out what makes the coast the most.

Creepy Crawlers - CANCELLED - Killens Pond State Park

For ages 6 to 9

Discover what slithers and crawls, what swims and flies, and what’s slimy, scaly, smooth, and fuzzy. Through games, crafts, and discovery activities campers will learn all about how and why these creepy crawlers are everywhere.

Wildlife Ranger Adventures - CANCELLED - Lums Pond State Park

For ages 7 to 10

Kayak the pond in search of wildlife and learn about the adventures you can have when working with wildlife! Peak behind the scenes in conservation efforts, conduct wildlife research, and meet special guests who work to protect our parks including Lums Ponds Natural Resource Police and Delaware State Parks’ K9 Officer, Leo.

Trailblazers - CANCELLED - Trap Pond State Park

For ages 10 to 14

Calling all adventurers! Put your survival skills to the test during the three overnight stays in our primitive camping area with planned nightly activities (Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday night). Daytime activities will include hiking, canoeing, kayaking, and fishing at Trap Pond, along with trips for a sailing adventure on the Rehoboth Bay and visit to Cape Henlopen Beach.

For ages 9 to 11

Join us for an exclusive peek at a day in the life of a zoo keeper! Campers will see how we care for our animals, visit some behind-the-scenes areas, and learn what it takes to feed and maintain so many different animal habitats in the zoo every day. Plus, they will even complete enrichment projects that they will give to the animals at the end of the week.

Enjoy the endless ways to stay active outdoors from yoga, rock climbing, and kayaking to hiking and fishing. Learn how to prepare yourself for high adventure activities to keep you safe and fit while having fun. This action packed camp will be filled with games, trips to the Killens Pond Life Course, and an obstacle course to test your skills at the end of the week. Travel time: Delaware Rock Gym (1 hour).

Cardboard Boat Challenge - CANCELLED - Trap Pond State Park

For ages 7 to 14

Join us for Trap Pond’s first Cardboard Boat Challenge. Learn about the science behind cardboard boats. Build and test model size cardboard boats. Camp will conclude with the construction of the Day Camp Boat that the camp counselors will use to race in the Cardboard Boat Regatta at the Blades Marina this August.

Fishing Camp - Bellevue State Park

For ages 11 to 15

July 6 - July 10, 9 a.m. - 4 p.m.

Campers travel to different fishing sites each day including an offshore charter boat trip and a canoe trip on the Brandywine. Participants will learn about fresh and saltwater fishing, fly fishing, fishing ethics, safety and techniques. This camp is appropriate for all skill levels. Campers may bring their own equipment; however, all necessary supplies are included. Trips involve travel to sites 15 minutes to 1.5 hours away.

Water Adventures - Brandywine Creek State Park

For ages 8 to 10

Cool off this week as we explore the creek, the marsh, and ponds around our park! Learn about the science of water with fun activities, games, and experiments. Play water games, fish and hike in the creek, and tube down the Brandywine! Campers must be able to swim.

Wilderness Survival Session 1 - Brandywine Creek State Park

For ages 8 to 10

July 6 - July 10, 8:30 a.m. - 3:30 p.m.

Prepare for the outdoors and learn the principles of Leave No Trace. What goes in to a survival kit? How do you use a map and compass? From knot tying and shelter building, learning about native plants, basic first aid, emergency preparedness, campfire safety, hiking the trails, and relaxing with a tubing trip down the Brandywine, this week will be full of cool lessons and fun games!

Are you thinking about becoming a zoo keeper? Living History - Killens Pond State Park

For ages 8 to 12

July 6 - July 10, 9 a.m. - 4 p.m.

Experience the rich history of Delaware. Travel back in time to Colonial, Civil War, and World War II eras. Ride in the steam cars at Auburn Valley State Park, and tour Historical Dover, Fort Miles and Fort Delaware. Travel times: First State Heritage Park (30 minutes), Fort Miles (1 hour), Auburn Valley (1 hour, 20 minutes), and Fort Delaware (1 hour).

Lums Pond Outdoor Survivors - Lums Pond State Park

For ages 10 to 13

July 6 - July 10, 8:30 a.m. - 3:30 p.m.

Hone those outdoor survival skills by making bamboo fishing poles, hiking sticks, and lean-tos. Meet outdoor professionals who will teach campfire making and archery. This camp will include a special trip to Fort Delaware to learn how they survived on the island. We will also experience Go Ape’s Junior course to see what Lums looks like from above.

Art in the Park - Trap Pond State Park

For ages 7 to 14

Do you love arts and crafts? This is the camp for you. Enjoy adventures around the park to draw inspiration for your works of art. Paint pictures, do a variety of crafts, and even build a birdhouse to take home.

Knights, Gnomes & Fairies of the White Clay Kingdom - White Clay Creek State Park

For ages 6 to 8

July 6 - July 10, 9 a.m. - 4 p.m.

Explore the enchanted “kingdom” of the White Clay Valley during this week of crafting fairy homes and castles, and use your imagination during many other themed crafts and games. Visitors to camp may include our Natural Resource “Knights” and Naturalist Forest “Fairy.”

Adventure Rangers - White Clay Creek State Park

Park Rangers have an exciting and important job when it comes to protecting and conserving our park. Spend the week exploring the park through the eyes of a Park Ranger, which includes meeting wildlife guests, animal tracking, and special conservation activities.

Junior Lifeguard Program - Cape Henlopen State Park

For ages 9 to 16

July 7 - August 4, 8 a.m. - 9:30 a.m.

This fun and educational program for children ages 9 to 16 years is designed to teach the importance of water safety, surf rescue techniques, minor first aid, and respect for natural resources, and to provide children with the knowledge and experience of true ocean rescuers. To be eligible for the Junior Lifeguard Program, each participant must have minimum swimming ability. Those who are unable to tread water or do not have basic swimming skills will not be allowed to participate. Tuesdays and Thursdays only, 8 to 9:30 a.m., July 7 through August 4.

Cost: $25 + optional uniform fee

Rock and Rappel Climbing Camp - Alapocas Run State Park

For ages 13 to 16

July 13 - July 17, 8:30 a.m. - 3:30 p.m.

Challenge your mental and physical skills while exploring the world of rock climbing. Campers will discover the basics of top rope climbing, belaying and rappelling while having an adventure. Climbing equipment is provided. After care is available 3:30 – 5:30 p.m., $35 for the week or $10 per day.

Experience Fort Miles history as you develop skills such as code breaking and concealment, then use them to complete an historic mission.

Pirate Adventures - Killens Pond State Park

For ages 8 to 12

Ahoy Matey! Discover treasure from shipwrecks off the Delaware coastline, build your own pirate ship, use the seining techniques of sailors, and dress up in your best pirate gear for the final day and follow the map to the hidden treasure! Travel times: Indian River Life-Saving Station (1 hour) and Cape Henlopen (1 hour).

Fish, Fish, Fish - Lums Pond State Park

For ages 7 to 10

July 13 - July 17, 8:30 a.m. - 3:30 p.m.

Campers spend the week making lures, learning knot tying and of course, fishing! We’ll practice casting, make fish prints, and do some science experiments! Includes a field trip to get an up-close look at Delaware’s native fish and a Friday fishing tournament where everyone’s a winner!

Fishing Camp - Bellevue State Park

For ages 11 to 15

Campers travel to different fishing sites each day including an offshore charter boat trip and a canoe trip on the Brandywine. Participants will learn about fresh and saltwater fishing, fly fishing, fishing ethics, safety and techniques. This camp is appropriate for all skill levels. Campers may bring their own equipment; however, all necessary supplies are included. Trips involve travel to sites 15 minutes to 1.5 hours away.

Naturalist Adventures - Brandywine Creek State Park

Outdoor Adventure Skills - White Clay Creek State Park

Challenge yourself as we test our skills rock climbing at Alapocas, kayaking at Lums Pond, and beginner mountain biking at White Clay (mtn. bikes available to borrow or bring your own). We’ll wrap up the week with a bike ride to a cool spot in town. Campers must be able to swim and bring a properly fitted, CPSC-approved helmet.

Extreme Sports Camp with Overnight - Bellevue State Park

Single Track Shredders: WCCSP Mountain Bike Focused Camp - White Clay Creek State Park

For ages 12 to 15

Campers must be experienced bikers with six or more miles of all-terrain experience. Join other avid young bikers from the region for a week-long mountain biking experience. The week includes rides at White Clay Creek, Brandywine Creek and Middle Run trails. Bike repair, riding techniques, behind the scenes at a bike shop, and coolin’ off in the creek are all part of the mountain bike Camp. Campers should bring their own mountain bike (bikes are available to borrow) and a properly fitted, CPSC-approved helmet, bike gloves and be able to swim.
