Please be advised that as a part of ongoing improvements to increase overall playability and aesthetics of the golf course, Garrison Lake Golf Club will be operating with only 9 holes open (the back nine) from May 20-30, 2019. The club anticipates having all 18 holes open again on Friday May 31st, but that may change depending on weather. Visit the club's Facebook page for updates.
This 160-acre course was originally built as a 9-hole private club in 1962, with the second nine added in 1963. In the years that followed, it became a public course that served the needs of area golfers for decades. In 2003, it was closed after a developer bought the property and announced plans to build 450 homes. The State of Delaware stepped in to purchase the property and retain it as open space and amenity for area residents. In 2006, DNREC's Division of Parks and Recreation began renovations of the course, which included rebuilt greens, tee boxes with five sets of tees to accommodate all skill levels, a new well and pumping system, a rebuilt driving range and practice facilities, and modular buildings that minimize costs and keep greens fees as affordable as possible. The course layout remains faithful to Edmund Ault's original design, with changes during the renovation designed and overseen by Ault’s son, Brian.
