Delaware State Parks Oral Histories Collection

The field recordings available below provide an audio window into a range of cultures and geographic areas. The recorded interviews are a compelling first-person testimony of vanishing beliefs, customs and lore, and not all of what was captured is admirable -- bigotry and prejudice are evident in some cases, and profanity is heard in some of the files. Preserving the human legacy, who and what we were as evidenced by our collectively held beliefs, values, and customs, furthers our understanding of who we are now.

About this page: The title of each recording is listed on the left. To the right of each title, you'll find one or more audio players; information about the recording(s) appears below the player(s). Multiple audio players indicate that a single interview is presented in two or more parts. Information about each recording varies; for most of them, the names of interviewees appear on the first line, then the year recorded, followed by a brief summary of the recording's content. Note to Internet Explorer Users: Internet Explorer doesn't play nicely with our audio file players; try refreshing the page to listen, or consider using a different browser.
