Thousands of volunteers help with the tremendous task to manage, protect, and interpret the natural and cultural resources entrusted to Delaware State Parks. Effectively engaging volunteers to meet both the interests of the volunteer and the needs of the park takes dedicated staff to coordinate the remarkable and often complex resources volunteers bring with them.

Delaware State Parks celebrates the achievements and the contributions of our skilled, Managers of Volunteers who are adept at coordinating the passion of our volunteers and turning it into effective action in our parks and programs statewide.

Help Your Favorite Delaware State Park- VOLUNTEER

It is a tremendous task to manage, protect and interpret the natural and cultural resources entrusted to Delaware State Parks. Our hardworking staff relies on dedicated volunteers like you to help fulfill that mission!

In as little as 2 hours, individuals and groups can make a difference in Delaware State Parks. They come from every corner of our state, and represent the wonderful diversity to be found in Delaware:

2. Tell Us what You Are Looking For: Individuals and Groups

Not sure what you are looking for? Didn’t find something that works for you? Complete our Volunteer Interest Form.

This provides us with information to help better understand your interests and availability and match these against the help needed in the park, guiding us to prepare for a successful and rewarding volunteer activity.

Individuals: A variety of flexible volunteer opportunities to meet your schedule and interests, such as:

  • Adopt a Trail
  • Nature Center Programming
  • Historic Site interpretation
  • Conservation Projects

Help us plan your team’s service project!

From as few as 5 to as many as hundreds, volunteer groups can make a big impact in our parks – We work with you to coordinate a project specific to your groups schedule and interests, such as:

  • Trail Maintenance
  • Conservation Projects
  • Park Based projects
  • Gardening/Landscaping
  • Painting/light construction
  • Special events
  • Among others

Join your team mates for a great day in the park!


Delaware State Parks Internship Program - provides opportunities for qualified students and career-focused graduates to apply learned theory and experience to practical situations and to observe an organization first-hand.

Volunteer Host Program - Individuals and couples with an RV volunteer in campgrounds and parks and receive a free campsite.

Work-Based Learning Program - school year, team-based, volunteer program for high school juniors and seniors providing meaningful hands-on park projects as a means of connecting academic work with practical job readiness skills in a real-world workplace environment. Not just for those interested in environmental or conservation careers. Students select morning or afternoon slots to fit their schedule. In partnership with the Dept. of Education, may be suitable for career pathway credit towards graduation.

Youth Conservation Corps - Summer jobs program providing hands on work experience along with environmental awareness opportunities for young people aged 14 - 21 These are environmentally focused, outdoor summer jobs, not a summer camp experience; Corps members should expect to work hard, get dirty, and make a difference.

Join a Friends Group

Delaware State Parks is fortunate to partner with 14 outstanding non-profit Friends Organizations who support the mission of the parks. Look into the many ways Friends groups make an impact and consider becoming a "Friend" of Delaware State Parks.

What it takes to be a volunteer

  • Love of the outdoors and natural areas.
  • Willingness to help others experience Delaware’s natural resources first hand.
