Playing the Past Badge: Juniors at Auburn Valley

Learn all about life as an Edwardian girl in 1900. Scouts on this program will get to play and learn in the beautiful 1897 Auburn Heights Mansion, write a diary as their character and get to do a variety of period tasks in the house including putting together their costume, making a bouquet in victorian flower language, designing their character's bedroom using images of turn of the century furnishings and acting out their character during a tea as they share about their life in an activity of mindfulness and empathy. Help reforest a former meadow into thriving woodland, helping to restore the biodiversity and soil quality of Auburn Valley State Park. Sunset River Cruise at Fort Delaware

Join us for an hour and a half-long cruise up the Delaware River onboard the Delafort Ferry to experience the unique natural and historical resources along the Delaware River. Participants will get the chance to view historic Fort Delaware and Pea Patch Island. Being on the river gives a very enlightening perspective to how Fort Delaware, Fort Mott and Fort DuPont worked together to protect the river passage to Wilmington and Philadelphia from enemy navies. In addition, Pea Patch Island is home to an impressive heronry, so we should see a wide variety of wading birds, and perhaps some osprey and bald eagles. This cruise offers a beautiful view of the setting sun.

Sunset River Cruise at Fort Delaware

Join us for an hour and a half-long cruise up the Delaware River onboard the Delafort Ferry to experience the unique natural and historical resources along the Delaware River. Participants will get the chance to view historic Fort Delaware and Pea Patch Island. Being on the river gives a very enlightening perspective to how Fort Delaware, Fort Mott and Fort DuPont worked together to protect the river passage to Wilmington and Philadelphia from enemy navies. In addition, Pea Patch Island is home to an impressive heronry, so we should see a wide variety of wading birds, and perhaps some osprey and bald eagles. This cruise offers a beautiful view of the setting sun.

Led by a historic interpreter, experience the stories of the sites and people that have defined the First State experience. There's always something new to discover each time you visit First State Heritage Park! Private Wagon Rides & Campfire at Bellevue

Relax on a leisurely wagon ride through the Bellevue grounds, see all the beauty that the park has to offer in Fall. Afterward, enjoy a cozy campfire. Come enjoy the fall foliage as you travel through the meadows on a wagon! Reserve a wagon for your family, school, work, church group or birthday party. Victorian Autumn Harvest Party at Auburn Valley

Emerge yourself into the experience of a harvest time house party of the late 1800s. Enjoy a scenic outdoor autumn inspired tea during peak foliage on the victorian estate of Auburn Heights. This program will include a light afternoon tea refreshments on the mansion porch. The mansion will be decorated based on period newspaper articles of autumn house parties around 1900 and a short class on Victorian dance instruction will be led at 3 o' clock in the parlor. Relax on a leisurely wagon ride through the Bellevue grounds, see all the beauty that the park has to offer in Fall. Afterward, enjoy a cozy campfire. Led by a historic interpreter, experience the stories of the sites and people that have defined the First State experience. There's always something new to discover each time you visit First State Heritage Park! Walking tours are offered twice daily (Weds, Thurs, Fri, Sat) at 11 a.m. and 2 p.m., departing from the John Bell House Interpretive Center (43 The Green). Legislative Hall, Delaware's Capitol, offers guided tours from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. on weekdays when the site is open. It is closed on Saturdays except for the first Saturday of each month. We encourage guests to wear comfortable shoes and bring water for all walking tours. Be advised that they frequently cover uneven ground and historic cobblestones. Auburn Heights Mansion Tour at Auburn Valley

Come explore one of the best examples of a Queen Anne style Victorian mansion that Delaware has to offer with a one-hour tour, at 1 p.m. and 3p.m. every Thursday and Friday. The mansion is the former home of the Marshall family whose history and legacy of industry and innovation filled the home with the antiques and furnishings you will see there today. You will get to explore two floors of Auburn Heights with a small group (maximum 10 people). Private Wagon Rides & Campfire at Bellevue

Relax on a leisurely wagon ride through the Bellevue grounds, see all the beauty that the park has to offer in Fall. Afterward, enjoy a cozy campfire. Both the wagon and the campfire are limited to a maximum group of 20 adults or 25 for a mix of adults and children. The wagon has benches, and the ride will be about 50 minutes. The wagon ride is followed by an hour at the campfire, tended by a staff member. Guests are encouraged to bring their own refreshments for the campfire. Accessible Wagon available upon request.
